Qatar are back-to-back Asian champions, lifting the AFC Asian Cup in 2019 and again on home soil in 2023, when Akram Afif scored a hat-trick of penalties to beat Jordan 3-1 in the final and was named the tournament's MVP and top scorer. Afif remains the creative heartbeat, with goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham, a 2023 Golden Glove winner, behind him.
